What do you do when you feel called to do more than what you’re currently doing but there is a voice resounding in your ears that you will not be effective in them all?
Is the Lord putting something on your heart to do but you can’t fathom adding more to your already full plate? Are you feeling guilty for being disobedient to your calling and yet paralyzed with fear of failing if you go ahead? Feeling conflicted and overwhelmed?
It has been said: If your plate is full, remove some things from it to make room for more.
I say, by all means, declutter if you have junk (things without eternal value) on your plate.
However, If God is asking you to do more than what (you’re sure) He’s given you to do, and it seems like you don’t have the bandwidth to take on more, DON’T panic. DON’T shrink back.
This is what He said to me when I found myself in the same situation:
“ASK FOR A BIGGER PLATE”.
This means to ask for GREATER CAPACITY. More BANDWIDTH.
He is the GOD OF ALL GRACE and there is an allocation of grace for each divine assignment.
The truth is that we don’t have the human capacity to handle any divine assignment no matter how easy it seems. So, we must ask for a bigger plate to accommodate each assignment. He is able to enlarge your plate so that each item on it will have space to blossom without infringing on the other. With this, no aspect of your life will suffer for the other aspects to thrive. He will give you the grace to do all He has called you to do without you feeling stressed out. Your family, career, spiritual life, etc. will not have to be on hold or shrivel because of your obedience to God’s call.
For this to be true for you, consider taking these steps:
Remove clutters from your life. These are things that may be draining you more than adding value to your life. Ask the Lord to open your eyes to see things that you or others have put on your plate that are irrelevant to your purpose on earth. This may be different from one person to another.
Evaluate what is taking your time currently. Are they self-imposed obligations, things for self-aggrandizement, people-pleasing engagements, or Spirit-led projects?
Have you obeyed the last instruction the Lord gave to you?
What weight(s) are you carrying that you need to let go of?
Pray for grace for your specific situation, stage of life, calling, and vision. Ask for more grace. God’s grace can be multiplied to you. Your strength can be increased. Paul did more than any of the apostles in the New Testament, yet he testified he was able to do it all because God strengthened him to do His work.
Ask for a bigger plate. Yes, your capacity can be enlarged to handle more than you are handling now without causing friction or suffering in other areas of your life. Because instead of cramming your plate, you’ll have a bigger, God-given capacity to handle more.
This may not be for everyone. But if you’re feeling led to do more than what you are doing currently, don’t shy back or become intimidated by the size of the task. If God is the one calling you, He will supply the grace and a bigger plate to contain it all. All you have to do is ASK.
THERE IS MORE GRACE & CAPACITY THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE!
